As the winter season continues, Winnipeg Richardson International Airport maintenance crews are working hard to keep the sidewalks and roadways around the campus cleared and safe. If you’re visiting us in person in the coming months, please be mindful of sharing space with heavy-duty snow-clearing equipment. Here are some crucial safety tips:
Stay alert when walking or driving near snow-clearing operations in progress.
Avoid the area when you see working equipment with its beacon on. Wait until the area has been cleared and equipment has moved away before passing through.
Communicate with operators if you need to be in a working area. Make eye contact with the operator to ensure they see you before proceeding. In low-visibility conditions, do not assume the operator can see you.
Working equipment has the right of way. Please yield to operators to allow them to complete their work and to avoid collisions. Do not walk or drive behind equipment in operation.
Use designated walkways marked for pedestrian use, as they are less likely to have equipment operating nearby. If you see a piece of working equipment with the beacon on, please use a different path.
Do not put yourself at risk — no amount of time saved is worth risking your safety or that of others. Thank you for your cooperation and for prioritizing safety at YWG this winter.
