Wildlife Management Program
Aircraft collisions with birds are a serious risk to public safety and to airport operations. Under the Canadian Aviation Regulations, Winnipeg Airports Authority has developed and implemented a Wildlife Management Plan.
The plan combines active and passive mitigation measures to deter wildlife from landing, foraging, roosting, and nesting at the airport. Management occurs year-round and is most active during spring and fall migration periods.
The Wildlife Management Plan was developed by a professional senior wildlife biologist who helped WAA to identify bird hazard zones on and near Winnipeg Richardson International Airport. Our efforts mainly focus on controlling populations within these zones.
